My Coaching Story

I have been involved in the game of soccer for over 35 years as a player and a coach. I was born in Peru and raised in Fairfax, Virginia, having immigrated to the US at the age of four with my family. I began my professional soccer career at age 18 in Peru for the Deportivo Municipal, a first division team. I also played for Sport Boys, a first division team in Peru, Dragons, a first division team in El Salvador, and trained with the Peruvian National team before moving to the professional ranks in the United States. While here in the U.S., I played for several teams in the A league (Long Island Rough Riders, Minnesota Thunder, Maryland Mania) and also trained with D.C. United and the 1996 US Olympic team before retiring due to injury. I recently relocated to Tucson, Arizona with my wife and children.
As a coach, I have worked with many different premier clubs and soccer schools (MLU, RFC, TFA, Phoenix Soccer Club, CASA FC, and Evergreen FC). I coached many teams in the South Jersey area that were ranked nationally and went on to win state and regional championships. In addition to coaching a team to a National Championship where they placed 3rd. Many of the teams that I have been involved with have won top premier tournaments (Jeff Cup, WAGS, FC Delco, Disney, etc.). As a youth coach, I won 4 State Cup Championships and have helped many girls and boys get opportunities to play at Division 1 Colleges and Universities throughout the US. I also worked with NJ Youth Soccer ODP program as an evaluator and served as the 2000 U-14 ODP Boys Head Coach. In addition, I ran programs for the Futbol Training Club and was part of the coaching staff for the Washington Spirit Super Y program. I am USSF licensed and KNVB, BRASILIAN certified. I also hold my Conmebol Professional Coaching License.
Most recently I started one of the premier youth futsal programs in Virginia and coached and trained both the Men’s and Women’s professional futsal teams in Virginia. Through my youth program we won regionals, states, and competed at the World Futsal Championship beating the previous year’s world champion in the semi-finals. With Virginia Men’s professional futsal team, I coached them to no loss inaugural season, winning their region. I hold my Spanish Federation level one coaching license in futsal.
